Time Tense.

Presente Simple – (Simple Present Tense)

                     subject+auxiliary verb+main verb
  do base

There are three important exceptions:
  1. For positive sentences, we do not normally use the auxiliary.
  2. For the 3rd person singular (he, she, it), we add s to the main verb or es to the auxiliary.
  3. For the verb to be, we do not use an auxiliary, even for questions and negatives.

Examples:

  • He does not [doesn't] eat vegetables .
  • She works in a hospital.
  • Elephants live in Africa.
  • Bogota is in Columbia.
  • Do children like animals?

  • Adults do not [don't] know everything.

He seds a letter today                               They send a letter today
He doesn't send a letter today                  They don't send a letter today
Does he send a letter today?                     Do they send a letter today?

Pasado Simple – (Simple Past Tense)

I broke the window. Yo rompí la ventana.

Use the Simple Past to express the idea that an action started and finished at a specific time in the past. Sometimes, the speaker may not actually mention the specific time, but they do have one specific time in mind.
